The Biological and Environmental Sciences course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the function and evolution of living organisms, as well as the interrelationships between living organisms and the global environment. The course is divided into two main areas of study.
Sciences of Biological Function
Sciences of Biological Function focus on the functional aspects of living organisms, primarily at the molecular and cellular levels. Research in this area centers on the morphogenesis of cells and organs in plants and animals, the adaptive responses of organisms to their environment, and the neural basis of insect behavior.
Ecology and Environmental Science
Ecology and Environmental Science focus on the processes of environmental change in the biosphere and the interactions between organisms and the environment. Emphasis is placed on elucidating the principles of interactions among organisms, ecosystem dynamics, biological evolution, environmental pollution, and material cycles.
